The European Subsea Security Coalition (ESSC) is bringing together Europe’s leading companies, research institutions, technology providers and policymakers to strengthen the protection of critical underwater infrastructure.
Europe’s prosperity increasingly depends on secure energy interconnectors, telecommunications cables, offshore energy installations, military communication systems and digital infrastructure located beneath the sea. These assets have become essential to economic security, societal resilience and collective defence.
ESSC exists to close the gap between technological capability and political understanding. Europe already possesses world-leading expertise in underwater robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, sensors and maritime technologies.
The challenge is ensuring that these capabilities are translated into common standards, political priorities and long-term investment.
